Au fil des d\u00e9cennies, celui-ci a initi\u00e9 de nombreux Occidentaux. Des yogis sont pass\u00e9s par son \u00e9cole, le <strong>Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute<\/strong>, ouverte en 1948 \u00e0 Mysore. Que l&rsquo;on soit initi\u00e9 au yoga depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es ou un novice, il faut toujours commencer par la premi\u00e8re s\u00e9rie (Surya Namaskara A, aussi appel\u00e9e \u00ab\u00a0Salutation du Soleil A \u00bb) afin de respecter le c\u00f4t\u00e9 traditionnel du Ashtanga, s&rsquo;appuyant sur ces salutations pour d\u00e9buter les s\u00e9ances. Au plus on avance dans les s\u00e9ries, au plus celles-ci sont avanc\u00e9es et n\u00e9cessitent un bon niveau. Premi\u00e8rement, il fait travailler <strong>sa force et sa souplesse<\/strong>, et cela d\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re s\u00e9rie.
